Behavior Plans & FBA
A Behavior Plan is the framework of how to get a student to move away from an inappropriate behavior to an appropriate behavior. The steps of a behavior plan are:
A Functional Behavior Assessment (FBA) is generally considered to be a problem-solving approach for addressing a student's problem behavior. It relies on a variety of techniques and strategies to identify the purposes of specific behavior and to help IEP teams select interventions to directly address the problem behavior. A FBA also looks beyond the behavior itself and focuses on identifying significant, pupil-specific social, affective, cognitive, and/or environmental factors associated with the occurrence (and non-occurrence) of specific behaviors.
- Identify the inappropriate behaviors (2 maximum)
- Pick one behavior to focus on
- Find a replacement behavior
- Teach the replacement behavior
- Identify the steps to take when inappropriate behavior occurs (identify, remind, practice).
